Wouldn't believe it if someone was to tell me that one day I would have to see my loved one battle through this disease... but there it is... the virus attacked 2 of my loved ones... Little Yayel and Little Lissy just a few days before my sister's birthday. Hearing the name would evoke a number of gruesome images... the fact is that the disease is quite common among pre-schoolers... this is because it is a very very contagious disease. It's not air borne, but it spreads by touching infected items and skin.
Fact is children just loves to put things in their mouth and this is why the virus travels and goes rampant when a group of toddlers are put together. Through my research from various website on the net, the virus comes form the intestinal tracts and would pass when hygiene is not practiced in disposing the pampers/stool properly. It would then go from one person to one person by touch of infected items (dirty hands touching rattle/soft toys) or from skin to skin upon contact with saliva or water discharge from the blisters that would be present on the child's hands or feet.
Though the disease works itself fast, symptoms would go away within 3-5 days, it is indeed a painful disease.
My darling Yels started having mild fever on Wed night, and by Thurs night the blisters were already apparent on his feet though it seemed mild. The first indication that had alerted my sister that something just wasn't right was the ulcers that had appear in his mouth. A trip to the ER confirmed that it was HFM. Yel seemed alright at first. Being his normal manja self, he just played and refused food, but around noon the next day the pain was starting to be too much for him. Trying to get him to drink milk was a trial itself and when I heard how he cried when they needed to give him meds to help relieve the ulcers in his mouth just brings tears to my eyes. I wish I could take the pain away!
The worse part was when my sister texted me that he wanted to eat a cookie so badly that he tried a small nibble and ended up crying when he just couldn't swallow. Oh how I cried when I read that... my sweet Yels is hungry! Later, he cried when they gave his milk using a syringe, but said "mmm, nenen dap... nak..." and finally slept... sigh... sian my sayang... :(
We were hoping that Lissy would be spared, but her fever started the next day and a trip to the doc's showed at least 7 ulcers in her mouth. Poor darling had such a rough night.. but she's a strong girl... though I know it must have hurt a lot, she managed to drink her milk at least 2 times a day. Knowing that she couldn't really communicate what she wanted made it even worse. My sis told me that she cried from 4 am and finally dozed off at 10am.
I prayed everyday that they would get better so that the pain would go away. I was also deeply scared that Shiya might come in contact from the virus. 7 days went by and nothing happened... until on the 7th day... she had a slight fever. I was so shocked that I started crying then and there. We quickly bundled her up and took her to the paed in SS19. The doc said that it wasn't HFM and that it was just a mild fever (her temp had gone down my then). So he gave us some meds to for the fever and lotion for the rash that was on her feet.
Not satisfied, I decided to go to the Paed in Shah Alam to reconfirm and they also said it wasn't HFM. Hmmm... by then Shiya no longer had a temp... but she didn't want any milk either. It takes us roughly 30 mins to pujuk her into drinking some everytime.
What can a mother do but just trust the words of her doctor... though I honestly think that she had HFM... the rash for one thing looked bad and was at her feet and a little was present on her finger... Thankfully it started to heal (they are like blisters and eventually started to dry out). She has also started to drink healthy quantity of milk again... her normal 3-4oz. Alhamdulillah...
My only worry is that we gave her clarityn to treat the itchiness from the rash. I was hoping that I don't have to give her any meds till she's a little older... but so far since her birth I have had to give her a total of 9ml of clarityn (a total from this incident and previously when she had eczema attack arnd 2months old) and 1ml of paracetamol (took that after her 2 months check up jab). That's a lot for a little baby... sigh... just hope that nothing bad comes out of it.
So the most important thing to take out of this painful incident is that we need to practice proper hygiene. Wash your hands like always, always... be aware of what your children put in their mouth... always wash their toys... and when at another person's house or places you're not familiar with, wipe the things that your child is exposed to..ie toys, chairs... you just never know what virus/germs could be lurking.
Be safe, be well... and hope for the best... ;)

Farel's Birthday Dinner
It seems only yesterday that we were celebrating Yel's 1st brithday and now here we are... celebrating his 2nd already... He's such a joy to be with... and of course a challenge when he's one of his cheeky moods... :)
In a year he has grown to be a brother who loves to 'kacau' his sister, but all in fun play as you can see how much he loves her and wants to play with her... sabar ya sayang... soon Lissy will be old enough that you guys can run around and play tag and of course share Yel's passion in playing cars. :)
What no party this year??! In respect of my confinement period, no parties were planned for Yel...YET... hehehe... but I did feel guilty as it seemed wrong to have his birthday pass by just like that. So I called in the rest of the family to come have dinner together. If it was up to me (and I was given more freedom to move around) I would have a better dinner with proper props and all, but as it is... I was only left with just being there and of course... balloons, balloons... no birthday/dinner should go on without balloons! :P
So here it is...some snapshots of the dinner... though my mind is still buzzing on how I can make an impromptu birthday party... so little time to plan! Well, we'll see about that... after all... I have Lissy's birthday and Shiya's aqiqah to think about too... :) hugs!

Little Yelly
As I was going over my files trying to organize the folders... I found some cute vids of yels when he was just a couple of months old! Oh he's soooo super cute.
Outing with Yels and IKEA
Today my bro, SIL and I went out with Yels. It started out around 11am when we went to Laman Seri to pick his cute self up. Unfortunately he was fast asleep, but of course that didn't stop up from taking him out anyway. He must have been super sleepy since the transfer from bed to car seat and the whole drive to Damansara didn't even cause him to stir. Deep sleep indeed.
We began our adventure at Keesh's friends launch for Smart Reader's Kindergarten in Damansara Perdana. Yels woke up once abang carried him in and was a bit phased out to find himself in a new surrounding. Like any kindergarten, the space was filled with toys and little boys and girls playing and doing art work. The crowd was minimal so no harm there. He just all cute and sweet on abang's lap and watched his surroundings. He eventually got up and started to play with the toys. The reason? There were train parts around. As is his passion, anything with wheels gets him excited. :)
We also showed him how to do artwork with sand. I must admit though that it seemed much more fun for him to mix or throw the sand around rather than dribbling it on the artwork :P In the end, cars and throwing balls around with abang won his heart and he started laughing and having fun.
Tummy grumbling we went curve next for some yummy lunch. We had a delicious meal at Kenny Roger's and boy was that a trial indeed! Yels was hungry and kept wanting to take my corns, didn't help that the corn and mac and cheese was in a bowl in front of him. Needless to say the table and floor ate more than Yels. But we did manage to get him to eat some. Here he started talking in his sweet language that only he understands and looked excited to be off walking around.
Done with food, we headed off to IKEA to go take a look at my wardrobe that I have been waiting for so long. We skipped through the usual lanes and went straight downstairs. Imagine my excitement when I saw that the shelves were in stock! Wheee! hehehe..... Yels was of course oblivious to my joy and was just happy to be in his stroller and play with his car and mama long. Checking through the list of parts that I needed, I rushed to get further information on the codes from the personnel, even having to go back upstairs to double check on the coding.
Thank you abang for the wonderful birthday gift! :) Baby dear and mummy here is very, very happy indeed! hehehehe...
Amazingly throughout the whole day Yels was such a well behaved and sweet boy. He didn't cry or even trouble us one bit! It was a wonderful adventure... the crowd and weather today also helped as it was just nice and breezy with not the usual throng of shoppers that usually makes going to IKEA area a trial.
We must have tire him out as he fell right to sleep again on the way home. Hardly moved a muscle when transferred him into bed. Love him to bits! Wish we had more time together, but unfortunately with no one free I had to leave him at Laman Seri to the tender care of his granddad. Maybe we'll have ourselves some merry time soon, but it won't be the same as most probably there'll be others like his Tok Dad and Che...or even his mummy and daddy... no this was special, just me...his Mamanish, Papa Long and Mama Long :)
Thumbs up to Papa Long and Mama Long for running around and entertaining him... :) hehehe... would love to help with that except that my big belly does keep me from being too active...

My sunshine, my nephew... little yelli boo...
My little yels was born on 22nd Feb 2009... a cute and cubby bundle of joy... the first time I held him, was so wonderful that I almost cried. I remember those days of caring for him (I had quit working then) and had all the glorified fun of bathing, washing, feeding and putting him to sleep. The sounds that he makes when he sighs and starting goo-gaaa-ing just sends flutters through my heart! :)
You know what I just love about him? His sweet and yummy smell... I could just kiss and smell him all day long... I love to graze my cheeks against his baby soft hair... lucky for him and his sis (Lissy), they are blessed with a full set of hair from day 1...
Anyhow, looking through my blog...I realised that I have not put up any posts about his 1yr birthday! Goodness, it was held 8 months ago, but lemme just make some short notes and uploads some pics just to show you how much he's grown... Now he's such a sweet boy (when he's not throwing things...) and soooo manja... who can resist that slight crooked smile and the big puss in boots eyes...I certainly just melt away and start gomoling him until he screams... hehehehe
Ok... back to the birthday party... the theme was Cars... I'm not sure why i chose this theme in particular but I guess I was thinking of the many characters in the Cars movie and was excited to depict all of his baby guests as one of the characters (bailed out on this idea later... they're just too young to understand!)... And so the color was balck and red, Duh! hehehe...
We have limited space at our home, so only closests of the closests friends are invited for this tea time affair... I got my usual deco of helium balloons and handmade simple designs of traffic lights to be hung arnd the house. Then we hung a huge 'Happy Birthday' banner... For little gifts, all the guests received candies... but i reserved a special gift set for all the parents of the baby guest lists... The babies were Zara Yasmeen, Andy Zariff, Ilhan Emre, Dani Nashrin and Nia Karlysa. Each babies received some party favors such as Cars yoyo, matching color plates and utensils... and for the parents, a picture to remind them of this special occasion. :)
The party was a blast... full attendance and full of laughter and fun... We even got a small no.1 cake for Yayel...
Thank you to everyone who had made the day special for Yayel and thank you for all the wonderful pressies... he still plays with them till this day....
And you know what surprised me most? His obsession is with cars.... he can never get enough of cars... be it big, small, shiny or colorful... as long as its a motor vehicle... he'll play with it all day long... he'll say... "voooommmm..." hehehehe...

A Simple Shirt
I was looking at the hantaran shirt on my bed. I can just imagine my sayang wearing it. He'll look handsome, as always...and ever so wonderful. And there was only one thought in my mind... I can't wait for the day... the day that I will be his wife.
Hehehe... its funny how just looking at his shirt, reminded me how soon I'll be able to take care of him. I want to be a good and loving wife. A wife that he can be proud of.
I can't wait!
Today we (me, meq, ajee and farel) went to Putrajaya to make farel's mykid card. He's so super cute and smells so sweet. Love him so much! Then we went to Berjaya Times Square. Farel slept the whole way :P
Had my first taste of krispy kreme. Hmm... I honestly prefer J Co much better. hehehe... oh well, my sayang and ajee seems to enjoy it though. Don't get me wrong... its sorta yum, but J Co is yummle-ish...!
